A MUSIC PRODUCER WITH YOUR VISION IN FOCUS

Crafting great music is always intensely personal. The best art requires an artist to put pieces of themselves into it. That’s the human experience and what creates connection. As a music producer, I take an immense amount of pride in helping artists find their voice, and effectively channel it into making the best songs possible.
As a producer, I have a wide-range of skills including engineering, production, sound design, mixing, instrumentalist, songwriting and more. I use all of it to help clients bring to life powerful, ready for release music.
The MOST important thing I focus on is authenticity. I strive to make sure any project I am producing is the best version of YOUR voice.
I’ve had years of experience working in the music industry at all levels, from A-list label artists, to indie artists, to commercial agencies for custom commercial music and everything in between. I’d love to be a part of your next project!
WHAT IS A PROFESSIONAL MUSIC PRODUCER?
A professional music producer is someone with knowledge in songwriting, music production, recording, engineering, mixing and mastering, who uses all of that to help a musical artist or client unify their musical ideas into a cohesive, polished, musical work that is ready for release.
A music producer does not have to work one specific way. Sometimes they serve only as a sounding board for an artist to help whittle down their best ideas. Sometimes they serve as a more technical audio expert to help bring a musical vision to life. And sometimes, as is typically the case for me, they help with an artist’s vision from start to finish, aiding in songwriting, recording, production, mixing and mastering.
The best music producer is the one you get along with well and trust. Trust cannot be overstated as far as importance. You should only work with someone who you believe has your best interests at heart and will strive to be honest, have clear communication and articulate to you their thoughts to help your ideas become the best version of themselves.

WHAT IS MUSIC PRODUCTION?
Music production is the process of recording singers and instruments, using samples, manipulating audio with production tools like sound design and audio hardware to create musical compositions.
There can be many roles within musical production. There is drum production, vocal production, guitar production, etc., but all of it is done to bring a song to life in a way that is both fresh, unique, interesting and professional.
A professional music producer will help an artist through technical skills, songwriting and knowledge of music to take new songs from a demo or rough stage into a polished final form.
WHAT IS THE MUSIC PRODUCTION PROCESS?
The music production process can vary greatly from project to project, but generally the process is similar to building a house.
You start with your actual song, the foundation of everything. In a perfect world, a song will have a full structure, chord progression and vocal melodies created before production begins.
Once you have a song, the next step is usually to determine the aesthetic direction. Is it a rock song? Pop? These different genres require different production and recording techniques to achieve the appropriate or desired sonic aesthetic. This will dictate much of the following steps as well.
Once an aesthetic is determined, then it’s time for drum and rhythm production. Nothing makes a production sound more amateur than drums or low-end (bass) that is not well crafted with intention. This is the heartbeat of the song. It must be excellent. I often say when the rhythm section feels good, everything else will just fall into place.
Next will be mid-range instruments OR vocals. Again, this is dependent on artist preference, but usually having the instruments like guitars, pianos, synths etc. in place will help create a more complete work and feeling that a vocalist can use to put forth a better vocal performance when it’s their time to record.
After instruments are finished recording (and again, this is a loose framework), it’s time for vocal production. It is an incredibly important aspect of music production (unless it’s an instrumental track), as a vocalist is who the audience will connect with. This is the personality and the “soul” of a song. An incredible vocal performance will help elevate a song so it connects with an audience.
After all musical elements are recorded, it’s time for mixing. This is the second to last stage, and the final place for any “creative” input. It is where a mix engineer will take a records raw pieces, and balance and glue them together using a variety of processes, to create a cohesive, polished, master-ready product.
Some artists don’t even like a mix engineer to change their sounds very much and a mixer will be focused simply on increasing brightness, clarity, punch, and cohesion, rather than using effects, or additional tools to change sounds.
Mastering is the last stage. This is where a mastering engineer takes a two-track or “stereo” high-fidelity export and will use audio tools to ensure it is at commercial volume, there are no technical issues, and that it will be heard similarly across all listening mediums.
There is a lot of misunderstanding with mastering, in that it is not mixing. It is taking a mix and finalizing it for distribution. It is much more technical and does not address things like sound design, effects, etc. Generally, it will only address clarity, punch, loudness and fidelity.
WHAT IS MUSIC MIXING?
Music mixing is the process of taking the raw audio pieces of a musical production, and balancing, blending and unifying them for a cohesive, clear, clean, master-ready musical work.
A mixer will typically use equalization (EQ), compression, saturation, effects, volume automation and a host of other tools to balance the audio and allow each specific element to breathe.
For example, a mixer may feel that a kick drum is not pushing through a mix enough, and may opt to remove certain frequencies to allow the kick to have more space in a mix.
Or a mixer may be responsible for creating a vocal “vibe”, using delay, reverb and other effects to create a space for a vocal to sit in, and mesh with the other musical elements.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A MUSIC PRODUCER?
A great music producer is someone who will help you be the best version of your artistic self. They will utilize a wealth of musical knowledge to guide and direct you in bringing your music to life, helping you create a polished, release-ready piece of art that you can be proud of.
I believe the most important three things to look for are: vibe, communication, expertise. If you vibe and get along with a producer, it bodes well for being on the same page artistically. Communication is key because you will have different ideas at times, and you both need to be able to articulate those clearly so you can move forward amicably and finish a project. And of course, the technical acumen can be critical as music production can be a very technical profession, with engineering and sonic science playing large roles in crafting quality work. All three are important, but only you can decide what matters most.
THE INDIE ALT ROCK EXPERT
While I do have a very diverse pallet when it comes to music, I have to say my favorite type of music to produce involves real drums, real guitars and real pianos. I love organic sounds and then manipulating them in the box. I guess what can you expect when my favorite band and influences are Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, TV On The Radio, Coldplay, Young The Giant and more.
I like to think I have pop sensibilities when it comes to songwriting, in that I want to make music that authentically connects with a wide audience. But not at the expense of artistic expression. Personally, my own music veers towards what I call a “cinematic” type of rock. Songs that would (and have been) well suited for TV or film placements and invoke strong emotions for a listener. Songs that make a listener want to move, or do something incredible, or feel all their emotions on a deeper level. It’s esoteric stuff, but hey, that’s what I like.
Sonically, I pride myself on crafting big, bombastic and punchy drums that invigorate an audience, with catchy bass lines, nifty guitars, vibey synths and tasty keys work to create indie and alternative rock productions that capture peoples ears within seconds and don’t ever let go.
COMMERCIAL MUSIC PRODUCTION
Commercial music production is another area of expertise that I excel in. Having come from a radio advertising background, I know the key elements a client is looking for in a commercial piece of music to make sure they can get the biggest bang for their buck. I would love to help work on a custom piece of music for your commercial, in any genre.
A SONGWRITER, PRODUCER AND MIXER
Whether you need songwriting, engineering, a producer, instrumentalist and/or mixer, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve spent years honing my craft and pride myself on being an audio expert, working on songs that have been streamed millions of times, licensed for massive TV shows like Shameless on Showtime, and heard on radio stations across the world. I can assure you, your music is in the best hands when we work together, and I take great pride in saying that the vast majority of my clients have come back time and time again to work together.

Mixing, yes. Mastering, no. I have deals worked out with a number of excellent mastering engineers that I’ve used over the years though, and would be happy to offer those discounts to any mixing/production clients.
In general, yes. However, it depends on what kind of work we’re doing. Songwriting, mixing, production are all good, and I can record vocals remotely utilizing Source Connect.
I provide custom quotes for all projects. Reach out to discuss.
Yes and no. I have the ability to record some styles of drums. Big room sound is not possible and would require another studio (which I have hookups around Los Angeles at top tier studios like Paramount Recording), but for a tighter sound, yes.
Yes, but depending on how particular they need to be exported, I charge an hourly fee for exports.
Absolutely. I’m happy to work just as a songwriter on any project.
